Tonsil and adenoid surgery is the surgical removal of the tonsils and adenoids. It is typically performed due to frequent infections, snoring, and breathing problems. This procedure helps improve breathing through the mouth and nose.
The recovery after surgery may take a few weeks. In the first few days, there may be throat pain and difficulty swallowing, so it is recommended to consume fluids and soft foods. The medications and care instructions provided by the doctor will help accelerate the healing process.
It is recommended for those who frequently experience tonsil infections, have difficulty breathing due to enlarged adenoids, or suffer from sleep apnea. Surgery is considered when these issues recur and other treatment methods are insufficient. However, a doctor's evaluation is necessary for each patient.
The surgery typically lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour. The duration of the surgery may vary depending on the patient's condition and the surgeon's techniques. It is performed under anesthesia, so the patient is completely asleep.
